ins Leben gerufen anlässlich des 90. Geburtstages des Gründers des Mauermuseums – Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie,
Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt (* 14.12.1914, † 09.01.2004)

Der von Alexandra Hildebrandt im Jahre 2004 initiierte Internationale Menschenrechtspreis Dr. Rainer-Hildebrandt-Medaille wird jährlich anlässlich des Geburtstages von Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt (* 14.12.1914 - † 09.01.2004), zum Tag der Menschenrechte, an Menschen vergeben, die sich gewaltfrei für Menschenrechte eingesetzt haben. Die Dr. Rainer-Hilde­brandt-Medaille wurde von Prof. Matthias Koeppel entworfen.
Im Jahr 2005 entschied sich die Jury für Yitzhak Rabin, Israel, Friedensnobelpreisträger, israelischer Premierminister, ermordet 1995, und Zheng Yichun, Volksrepublik China, Dissident, Journalist, Detention Center Yingkou, inhaftiert 2004. Preisträgerin im Jahr 2006 war die First Lady der Arabischen Republik Ägypten, I.E. Frau Suzanne Mubarak. 2007 wurden die kubanischen Bürgerrechtler Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet González und Normando Hernández Gonzalez, der Pfarrer Dr. Harald Poelchau posthum und der Rechtsanwalt und Bürgerrechtler Dr. Muhamad Mugraby aus dem Libanon ausgezeichnet. 2008 wurden Dr. Rudolf Seiters, Präsident des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes und Jurij Samodurow, Direktor des Sacharow-Museums in Moskau ausgezeichnet. Der Preisträger im Jahr 2009 war Bogdan Borusewicz, Mitbegründer der unabhängigen polnischen Gerwerkschaft „Solidarnosc“. Preisträger im Jahr 2010 waren Prof. Dr. Imre Pozsgay, Staatsminister – stellvertretender Ministerpräsident Ungarns, Jurij Schmidt, Rechtsanwalt, Vorsitzender des Russischen Anwaltskomitees zum Schutz von Menschenrechten und Herr Michail Chodorkowski, Bürgerrechtler.

International Human Rights Award
Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt Medal
Created on the Occasion of the 90th Birthday of the Founder of the Wall Museum –
Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie,
Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt (* 14.12.1914, † 09.01.2004)

The Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt Medal, an international human rights award founded by Alexandra Hildebrandt in 2004, is given annually in recognition of extraordinary, non-violent commitment to human rights. The Medal is conferred on the birthday of Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt (* 14.12.1914 - † 09.01.2004) to mark International Human Rights Day. The Dr. Rainer Hilde­brandt Medal was designed by Prof. Matthias Koeppel.
In 2005 the jury bestowed the Medal on Yitzhak Rabin, Israel, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Prime Minister of Israel, assassinated in 1995, and on Zheng Yichun, dissident and journalist in the People’s Republic of China, imprisoned in the Yingkou Detention Centre, in 2004. The award was given in 2006 to H.E. Suzanne Mubarak, First Lady of the Arab Republic of Egypt. In 2007 the Cuban civil rights activists Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet González and Normando Hernández Gonzalez, the priest Dr. Harald Poelchau, posthumously, and the attorney and civil rights activist Dr. Muhamad Mugraby of Lebanon were honoured. In 2008 Dr. Rudolf Seiters, President of the German Red Cross and Yurij Samodurov, Director of the Sakharov-Museum in Moscow, were honored. In 2009 Bogdan Borusewicz, co-founder of the independent Polish trade union “Solidarnosc”. In 2010 the jury awarded the medal to Prof. Dr. Imre Pozsgay, Minister and Deputy President of Hungary, to Yuri Schmidt, lawyer and Chairman of the Russian Lawyers Committee and to Michail Khodorkovsky, human rights activist.
